When I started TucanAPI, I wasn’t trying to build a business. I just wanted to fix a problem I kept running into — APIs that were slow, unreliable, overpriced, or just plain annoying to integrate.
As a full-stack developer working on high-performance platforms, I needed a better way to access data like IP geolocation, phone validation, and browser detection — without hitting confusing docs, rate-limits, or bloated pricing models.
So, I built something small for myself.
That small tool became TucanAPI.
💡 Why It’s No Longer Just a “Currency API”
TucanAPI started with a simple idea: build a clean, fast API for currency exchange. But before even launching, I realized there was a bigger opportunity — and a bigger problem to solve.
Developers like me needed more than just exchange rates. We needed reliable, easy-to-use APIs for other everyday data tasks — geolocation, validation, device detection, and more.
So I pivoted before going live and expanded TucanAPI into a full suite of tools. Currency exchange is still part of it, but now it’s just one of many services built to save developers time and frustration.
We now provide APIs for:
- 🌎 IP Geolocation – Detect where your users are in real time
- 📱 Phone Number Validation – Know if a number is valid, and format it globally
- 🕵️ User-Agent Lookup – Instantly get browser, OS, and device info
- 📧 Email Validation – Prevent typos and catch disposable emails
- 🌍 Country Metadata – Pull standard country codes, names, and more
- 🔎 VAT Number Lookup – Verify EU VAT numbers instantly
And yes — 💱 Currency Exchange is still there too.
⚙️ Built for Developers First
TucanAPI isn’t a marketing stunt. It’s not a low-code toy or a flashy front-end wrapper. It’s a backend tool for people who build things — the way I would want it:
- Clean JSON responses
- Fast response times (<100ms typical)
- Scalable plans without weird rate throttling
- Simple API keys with usage tracking
- Docs that actually help
🧠 What’s Next
We’re actively adding new services and SDKs. Next up:
- ✅ A full developer dashboard to manage keys & monitor usage
- ✅ Webhooks for event-driven integrations
- ✅ A public Postman collection
- ✅ Open-source client libraries in Python & JavaScript
If you’re building an app, dashboard, form, or SaaS product — TucanAPI might just save you hours of work.
👋 Let’s Build Something Better
I’m Juan Denis, and this platform exists because I wanted a better experience. If you’ve ever felt like existing APIs were built without developers in mind, this is for you.
Try it. Break it. Send feedback.
You can sign up free at TucanAPI.com, and I’d love to hear what you build with it.
